Hello and welcome to the Artist Ant Interviews People Summer Series! Welcome to another edition to my latest talks with local and global creatives that are alive, hustling and thriving in their respective crafts! Today I have a special guest that I’ve known since the early days of staring out on Instagram. I’ve seen this individual grow in regards to his artstyle. I remember witnessing his art transition from notepads to digital formatted illustrations that not only reflected his development as an illustrator, but also his development as a person that is able to express their passions and identity. I don’t have to say anything other than requesting that all of the ladies, robots and all of cyberspace welcome today’s guest, filipino artist, Ronald Pabilona!
Q0. Who are your inspirations?
RP: Let me see... I really can't tell. It depends on the moment. I usually get inspired when I'm on the peak of my feelings like when I'm happy, in love, mad, or sad. If there's no such things going on, I tend to have a hard time making art.
Q1. How did you get into art, most notably writing?
RP: Well, when I was young, I always overheard my parents saying that I have a great hand. I remember one time when a lady visits our house, my mom is showing my drawings to her and ask if I'm interested in going to an art class which I did. Ever since, I have always been called as the artist on my academic class.

Q2. When did you take art seriously?
RP: I can say that was way back 4th year high school. That's when I won an online contest. That time, I tell myself that I wanted more! Because you know, nothing is more fulfilling than getting acknowledgements with what you're doing. At least for me. :)
Q3. What drives you in your daily life?
RP: It's definitely my family. I'm the breadwinner of the family and as of now, I know that they really needed me in able to survive. That is the reason as well why I can't put all my focus into my artistry. :(
Q4. What made you the person that you are today?
RP: My Family. I know that I'm not that perfect as a person and I still commit some shitty things but I'm still glad how I've been raised by my mom and dad. I know that they've done everything for me to become a good citizen and for that, I'm thankful.
Q5. If you could speak to any living creator or inspiration, who would it be, why, and what would talk to them about?
RP: Da Vinci. I wanted to be his trainee so I'll definitely ask a lot of things about his techniques and inspirations for his art. I saw a documentary where he was able to create a map which is hard to do in his time. He's a legend!
Q6. If there were any deceased creators , actors, singers, writers, etc that you would want to speak to, who would it be, and why?
RP: Amy Winehouse. I will ask why she decides to do what she's been doing until her last breath. I want to know what alcohol gives here that she need to end up dying because of it. I mean, I love her and I wish I could still listen to her new songs.
Q7. If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?
RP: USA. I want to be a part of a community of artists where everyone can express their artistry. I've seen a lot of low key artists (you're one of them Ant ;)) that are so cool and imagining myself being with them is just so cool.
Q8. What is one thing that you fear?
RP: Heights!!! I wish I'm wasn’t because most of the great views are from the top-view perspective. :(
Q9. If you had a superpower what would it be and why?
RP: Immorality. I want to see the history flies before my eyes. That's just so cool to imagine.
Q10. What catches your attention when you meet people?
RP: Their beauty. My eyes are meant to see beautiful things that I translate in to my art but of course, it's still the personality that wanted me to talk to them. :)
Q11. What is one word of advice that you would impart to your younger self?
RP: Just do what you want to do because it's your life that matters. That's what I've been saying to myself and I don't regret the life that I have right now :)
Q12. What are three books that you always remember or return to, and why? How did they shape you?
RP: Um, honestly I don't like reading. I like learning visually and that what works for me most of the time. I'll try to read something and I'll share my experience. :D
Q13. If you could continue or remake a movie, or franchise, what would be your film of choice?
RP: Final Destination!!! I want to continue the movie since I pretty much believe that it's on the right path and what I would probably do is focus on new innovative deaths and new twist on how to cheat death. I really miss the franchise and would want to see more!!!
Q14. If you were to make a film, novel, or comic book based on an album, what album or artist would you pick?
RP: I would probably make a film about the album by Tove Lo called Queen Of The Clouds. The album is such a romantic story of how modern love story ends up. I imagine Tove Lo herself stars as the main protagonist. (You should listen to it though it might not be your genre :P)

Q15. Who In this life, has motivated you to stay true to what makes you who are?
RP: Myself. It's always been me and my pride that makes me true to myself and my decisions has been align with what I believe in.
Q16. Where do you hope to see yourself in five years?
RP: I wish I was already an influencer on all social media platforms using my art. That's something I can't do right now because I'm working full time.
Q17. What are three albums or songs currently, that you listen to on repeat? And why?
RP: Melanie Martinez' Cry Baby, Sigrid's Sucker Punch, and Tove Lo's Queen Of The Clouds. I keep listening to those main 3 albums because they convey a story which I really like. I'm 2 hours away from work and that's enough for me to listen to 1 album every day.
Q18. What color speaks to you the most and why?
RP: Yellow. Because yellow is something that everyone will look at but not most people will choose.
Q19: What is your greatest weakness?
RP: My emotion. I tend to do something so bad when I let my emotions drives me. I'm working on it. :(
Q20. What is your greatest strength?
RP: My emotions! When I'm inspired and so happy, I am able to do a lot of stuff that I never thought I can do.
Q21.What's one thing that you're proud of?
RP: I'm proud that I've been consistent with what I believe is right or not because I really hate hypocrisy and knowing that I am will crush me.
Q22. What is a mantra that you tell yourself?
RP: Do what's right, do what's right, everyone should do what's right. :)
Q23. What is success to you?
RP: Success is not about just achieving something. If that achievement wasn't even the thing that you had hoped for then that wouldn't make any sense at all. Success is when you're we're able to achieve your dream in life.
